Providing Encouragement

In the following table, there are three examples of positive, encouraging statements in one column and in the other column what the school-agers might think when they hear those statements. Create three more statements and reflections. Share your responses with your trainer, coach, or administrator.

When you say: The school-age child thinks:
That was a difficult math problem, but you kept working at it until you solved it. I don't give up easily. I persist.
You cleaned the brushes and put away all the art materials without being asked. I really appreciate that. I can be responsible.
Your opening sentence grabbed my interest and made me want to read on. I'm getting good at writing.
